The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission was established in October 2005 pursuant to enactment of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, 2005.

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission was established in October 2005 pursuant to enactment of the Electric Power Sector Reform Act, 2005 with the following objectives;

  1. To create, promote and preserve efficient industry and market structures and to ensure the optimal utilization of resources for the provision of electricity services;
  2. To maximize access to electricity services by promoting and facilitating consumer connections to distribution systems in both rural and urban areas; and
  3. To ensure that adequate supply of electricity is available to consumers.
